require. Medical Cost Projection is the process of reviewing records to determine the future cost of medical services. Defense and plaintiff attorneys can use the Medical Cost Projection report in mediation, settlement negotiations, and also in setting aside funds. Medical Cost Projection is often used in the litigation process. However, the definitive product for the purpose of litigation and testimony is The Life Care Plan (ichcc.org).

The Nurse Life Care Plan is a tool used for estimating healthcare needs of a client with catastrophic injury/illness and chronic health care issues. Nurse Life Care Planners use the nursing process – standardized approach when assessing a client’s future needs. The Nurse Life Care Plan Report will estimate the client’s healthcare needs using a collaborative approach of
various healthcare providers and their opinions. The Nurse Life Care Plan addresses and projects the costs and frequency of needed goods and services over the client’s estimated life span
(AANLCP, 2008). Defense and plaintiff attorneys hire Nurse Life Care Planners to provide expert witness testimony related to the client’s injuries and the cost of their future medical needs.

Nurse Life Care Planning Services Include:

Once the attorney concludes their representation of a client, they may introduce their client to the services and benefits of a Nurse Life Care Manager. Nurse Life Care Managers are medical
professionals who can assist the client in a variety of ways. Life Care Managers are paid to serve as a client’s personal healthcare advocate. Life Care Managers assist their clients with making
autonomous decisions regarding their living arrangements and healthcare decisions, which takes the burden off of their family members.

Nurse Life Care Management Services Include:

  • Home safety assessment with recommendations for home modifications, home services or additional medical equipment
  • Attend medical appointments, review medical records for accuracy
  • Review medications
  • Review home care services and ensure client is being care for adequately
  • Research community resources for shopping, exercise, worship, transportation, etc.
  • Research alternative living solutions, such as assisted living or skilled nursing home
  • Assist with updating medical coverage if necessary
  • Assistance with obtaining a healthcare directive or power of attorney
  • Facilitate family updates if desired
